Guide & Tips for Tiles Survive

Helpful tips to progress faster, spend resources wisely, and avoid common mistakes.
Tip 1
Upgrade the Power Plant Before You Overbuild the Base

In the early game, treat the Power Plant as your main progression gate. Upgrade it before you start connecting every new facility or pushing too hard into extra tiles.

Electricity speeds up production and keeps key buildings working properly. If your Power Plant falls behind, kitchens, workshops, housing, and later expansion all become less efficient. That is why many beginner guides point to the Power Plant as the first major priority, not just another building in the queue.

The mistake this avoids is building a wide base that looks busy but works slowly. A new player may unlock more structures, connect too much, then wonder why production feels stuck. In Tiles Survive, more buildings are not always better if your power system cannot support them.

Tip 2
Expand Tiles Only When Food, Power, and Storage Can Handle It

Do not clear and unlock tiles just because the game lets you. Before expanding, check whether your base can support the extra workload: enough electricity, enough food, and enough storage space for the resources you are about to bring in.

Tiles can give resources, blueprints, new objectives, and threats. That makes expansion valuable, but it also increases pressure on your settlement. If your kitchen is already barely keeping up or your storage is full, another tile can create more problems than progress.

This avoids the common early-game mistake of rushing exploration while the base is still fragile. Expansion should feel like opening the next step, not dragging your survivors into more work with no support behind them.

Tip 3
Save Advanced Meals for Heavy Work, Not Normal Routine

Use basic meals as your everyday safety net. Keep them stocked so survivors are not constantly running low on stamina or morale. Advanced meals are better saved for heavier work periods, emergencies, or moments when you need your base to push through a demanding task.

Food in Tiles Survive is not just a survival meter. It affects how smoothly survivors keep working. Better meals can help productivity, but rare ingredients are not unlimited, especially early on.

This avoids wasting strong meals on routine jobs. If you burn advanced food whenever it appears, you may not have it when your settlement actually needs a stronger stamina push.

Tip 4
Build Two Real Combat Squads Before Spreading Hero Resources Everywhere

For heroes, avoid upgrading every character just because you unlocked them. A practical early approach is to build your first one or two serious combat squads, then leave weaker or less important groups for gathering, digging, or low-power tasks.

Reddit players repeatedly warn against spreading materials too thin. Some players use their first two groups as combat teams and keep later groups mostly for support jobs. This makes sense because your strongest heroes need levels, skills, gear, and stars to actually carry fights.

The mistake this avoids is having many half-built heroes and no squad that can clear harder content. In Tiles Survive, a focused team usually gives better progress than a roster full of lightly upgraded characters.

Tip 5
Time Big Upgrades Around VS or Duel Days

If your server has VS or Alliance Duel-style scoring active, do not instantly claim every major upgrade the moment it is ready. Construction, research, hero upgrades, and shard spending can be worth more when they match the event day that rewards that activity.

Reddit players specifically point out that holding hero upgrades, construction, and research for the correct VS day helps maximize alliance points. This is not always important on day one, but it becomes very important once you join an active alliance.

The mistake this avoids is losing event points for progress you were going to make anyway. You still upgrade your account, but you time the upgrade so it also helps your alliance and earns better rewards.

Tip 6
Do Not Trust Battle Power Alone in Duels and Honor Expedition

Battle power is useful, but it is not the whole fight. Formation, shields, healing, faction bonuses, research, Chief Gear, and hero skill interaction can change results. Some Reddit players reported losing Honor Expedition fights even when their listed power was higher, which suggests raw power is not a safe predictor by itself.

For many players, this means you should test formations instead of only raising the biggest number. A tank or shield hero in the right place can keep your damage dealers alive longer. A healer or support may matter more than another fragile damage hero.

The mistake this avoids is assuming “higher power = automatic win.” If your squad collapses too fast, the power number does not matter. Survival, positioning, and skill effects decide many fights.

Tip 7
Do Not Panic Over Chief Gear Red Dots

When Chief Gear opens, red notification dots can be confusing. Community posts suggest that upgrades may require both General Parts and blueprints, and some Chief Gear functions appear to be time-gated for newer accounts.

Blueprints can come from activities such as killing the highest-level Wanderer you can manage, with Reddit players noting that the first one of the day can be especially important. Because details may depend on your server age and unlock timing, check your alliance or Discord before wasting time hunting the wrong menu.

The mistake this avoids is assuming the game is bugged or that you are missing an obvious button. Sometimes you simply lack the required blueprint, account age, or unlock condition.
