Guide & Tips for Doomsday: Last Survivors

Helpful tips to progress faster, spend resources wisely, and avoid common mistakes.
Tip 1
Join an active alliance as soon as possible

Playing solo is one of the worst mistakes in Doomsday: Last Survivors. A good alliance gives you construction help, event rewards, territory, resource support and protection. It also makes your daily progress much faster.

Do not stay in a dead alliance just because you joined it first. If people are not active, if alliance help is slow, or if the alliance does not participate in events, move to a better one. A strong alliance is not just a social feature. It is part of your account growth.

Tip 2
Pick one troop type and focus on it

Do not upgrade infantry, ranged and riders equally as your main combat path. Choose one troop type and focus your research, heroes, equipment and combat investment around it.

You can still build different troop types for utility and gathering, but your main fighting strength should have a clear direction. A focused account usually performs better than an account with random upgrades everywhere.

If you are not sure what to pick, watch how your alliance plays and what heroes you are likely to build. The best choice is not only about tier lists. It is about what you can realistically support.

Tip 3
Do not spread hero fragments across everyone

Hero fragments, badges and upgrade materials are limited. If you split them across too many heroes, you will end up with a lot of average heroes and no strong squad.

It is usually better to build one useful hero pair properly than to level every legendary hero you unlock. Before investing in a hero, ask yourself whether that hero fits your troop type and your long-term plan.

A hero that looks good but does not match your main troop type can slow your progress.

Tip 4
Use early heroes, but do not overinvest in temporary ones

Some early heroes are useful because they are easy to level and help you progress through campaign, zombies and daily missions. They are fine to use while your account is growing.

But be careful with heavy investment. Many stronger heroes come from Top Commander, All-Star Night, roulette-style events or other limited sources. If you spend too many rare materials on temporary heroes, you may regret it later when you unlock better options.

Use early heroes to progress, but save serious investment for heroes that fit your final direction.

Tip 5
Save speedups for important events

Speedups are not just there to make upgrades finish faster. They are one of your most important event resources.

Top Commander and similar events reward players who prepare. If you spend all your speedups randomly, you may not have enough when a valuable hero or reward appears. This is especially important for free-to-play and low-spend players.

Do not try to win every event. Save for the ones that matter.

Tip 6
Protect your general speedups

General speedups are very flexible, which makes them easy to waste. Avoid using them on healing unless you have no choice. In most cases, they are better saved for research or major event pushes.

Research speedups and general speedups can have huge value during Top Commander. Construction speedups are useful, but they are usually less important than research progress in the long run.

If you are serious about progression, think before using every speedup.

Tip 7
Build and use engines for gathering

Even if your main combat focus is infantry, ranged or riders, engines are very important for gathering. Resources are a constant bottleneck, and good gathering habits make everything else easier.

Send gathering marches often, use gathering heroes, and try to collect from higher-level nodes when possible. More resources mean more buildings, more research, more troops and better event preparation.

Ignoring gathering will slow your whole account.

Tip 8
Level gathering heroes early

Gathering heroes may not look exciting, but they help your account every day. Faster gathering means more resources without spending money.

Do not only level combat heroes. Having a few useful gathering heroes can make your shelter grow much more smoothly. This is especially helpful for F2P players, because resource shortages become worse as upgrade times and costs increase.

Tip 9
Do not run alone in AR and IR

Archipelago Raid and Island Raid are not solo events. If you move alone, stronger players can catch you, and your impact will be much lower.

Stay with your alliance or faction. Follow calls, help build objectives, reinforce when needed and avoid isolated fights. These events are about coordination more than individual power.

A weaker player who follows the group can be more useful than a stronger player who plays alone.

Tip 10
Do not chase Top Commander without preparation

Top Commander can give excellent rewards, but it is also one of the easiest places to waste months of resources.

Before pushing hard, check whether you actually have enough speedups, resources, hero materials and buffs to reach a meaningful rank. If you cannot compete, it may be smarter to aim for smaller rewards and keep saving for a better attempt later.

For many F2P players, serious Top Commander preparation can take months.

Tip 11
Use buffs before big training or research pushes

Before spending a large amount of speedups, check your buffs. Training buffs, research buffs and other temporary boosts can save a lot of time and resources.

Do not start a huge upgrade session just because you are impatient. Prepare first, activate the right buffs, and then spend your speedups. Small efficiency mistakes become expensive when you are using weeks or months of saved resources.

Tip 12
Do not judge heroes only by rarity

Legendary heroes are not automatically good for your account. A hero is only valuable if it works with your troop type, your role and your available pairings.

A lower-rarity or easier-to-build hero can sometimes be more useful than a legendary hero you cannot properly upgrade. Focus on usable strength, not just rarity.
